Cupertino: apple has awarded $ 410 million to II-VI, a leading optical technology manufacturer, which will create additional capacity and accelerate the production of future components for iPhone, supporting more than 700 jobs in the United States.
The award is based on the initial $ 390 million awarded by Apple’s Advanced Manufacturing Fund in II-VI in 2017.
II-VI manufactures vertical cavity surface emitting lasers (VCSEL) that help power Face ID, MemojiSelfies in Portrait, Animoji and Portrait mode.
Apple said in a statement Thursday that it is also working with II-VI to make lasers used in LiDAR Scanner technology to help deliver faster and more realistic augmented reality experiences and improve autofocus on low-light scenes in photos and videos. .
“We have established Apple’s Advanced Manufacturing Fund to support U.S. companies that create state-of-the-art technology and tomorrow’s jobs,” said Jeff Williams, Apple’s chief operating officer.

Expanding Apple’s collaboration with II-VI is part of the company’s plans to invest $ 430 billion and add 20,000 new jobs to the United States over the next five years.
