WASHINGTON – U.S. President Joe Biden issued a statement Friday on the rise in anti-Semitic attacks in the U.S.
“In recent weeks, our nation has seen a series of anti-Semitic attacks, directed and terrorizing American Jews,” Biden wrote.
“We saw a brick thrown out of a window of a Jewish-owned business in Manhattan, a swastika carved into the door of a Salt Lake City synagogue, families threatened in front of a Los Angeles restaurant and museums in Florida and Alaska dedicated to celebrating Jewish life and culture and remembering the Holocaust, vandalized with anti-Jewish messages, “the president added.
“These attacks are despicable, unconscious, anti-American and must stop. I will not allow our American comrades to be intimidated or attacked by who they are or by the faith they practice, ”the statement said.
“We cannot allow the toxic combination of hatred, dangerous lies, and conspiracy theories to put our fellow Americans at risk,” he continued. “As Attorney General Garland announced yesterday, the Department of Justice will deploy all the tools at its disposal to combat hate crimes.”
He said that in recent days, we have seen that no community is immune. “We must all stand together to silence these terrible and terrifying echoes of the worst chapters in world history and promise ourselves that hatred will not have a safe harbor,” he wrote.
“May is the month of American Jewish heritage, when we honor American Jews who have inextricably woven their experience and successes into the fabric of our national identity; overcoming the pain of history and helping to lead our struggle for a more just, just and tolerant society, ”the president wrote.
