Rona Fairhead, former president of the BBC Trust, could become the first woman on BT’s board of directors, according to reports.
Fairhead is in the running to succeed Jan du Plessis, who announced his retirement in March, the Telegraph reported.

If successful, she will become the first woman to lead BT’s board.
The search for a new leader is, however, in its early stages, with the list not yet drawn up.
Fairhead has never chaired any public company, but is currently a non-executive director of Oracle, a U.S. technology provider.

Previously, he also chaired the Financial Times Group when it was a subsidiary of Pearson and the US business of HSBC.
BT declined to comment.
