On July 5, Jeff Bezos stepped down as a chief executive officer of Amazon, the company he founded in 1995. In the US, founders often step away from their company leaving it in the hands of professional managers. They don’t plonk family members in senior positions. Steve Jobs (Apple) and Bill Gates (Microsoft) are just two examples.
But Bezos stands apart even among such US business giants. In less than three decades, he built the world’s 4th most valuable company. At over $1.8 trillion, Amazon’s market value is 10-times the value of India’s most valuable company Reliance Industries. Bezos is the richest human on earth with over $200 billion net worth. That amount is after adjusting for divorce settlement with his wife MacKenzie which is estimated to be worth $35 billion
