TOKYO — Japan’s household spending fell a real 5.1 percent in June from the same period last year, as a cash handout program and economic recovery after the initial shock of the COVID-19 pandemic promoted the previous year’s consumption, government data showed Friday.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, average spending by households with two or more people in real terms was 260,285 yen (2,370 U.S. dollars), which was the first decline in four months. (Japan-Household Spending)

KUALA LUMPUR — Fitch Solutions Country Risk and Industry Research on Friday revised up its 2021 palm oil price forecast significantly to 3,400 ringgit (about 805 U.S. dollars) per ton, from 3,050 ringgit per ton previously due to tight supply in Malaysia.
The Fitch unit said in a note that palm oil prices will remain supported in the second quarter as the market will remain tight for the time being, and as alternative oilseeds prices remain elevated. (Malaysia-Palm Oil)

WELLINGTON — The New Zealand government’s reform of the health system took a step forward on Friday with the unveiling of the system that will be used to hold it accountable and ensure it delivers more equitable healthcare for all New Zealanders.
Health Minister Andrew Little has already announced that the 20 district health boards will be disestablished and replaced with a new national system with a greater focus on primary healthcare, bringing an end to the postcode lottery system of health services, and cutting bureaucracy so healthcare workers can focus on patients.
